Radio-Locator

Site of the Moment

In this world of HDTV, high speed internet, cell phones with internet access, satellite radio and podcasts, sometimes it’s nice to just listen to good ‘ol terrestrial radio. And while it may be obvious, there are still quite a few stations out there. That’s where Radio-Locator.com comes in. Just put your zip code (or the zip code you may be visiting) in and you’ll get a listing of all the radio stations in the area, but AM and FM.

But the listings isn’t the only thing on this site. It also links to the stations’ websites and even has some streams. So if you’d like to listen to a station in LA but are in NY, but maybe you don’t know the website or the call letters, just visit Radio-Locator and they can hook you up.

This is a nice little site that can come in handy at times for a possibly dying (through evolution) breed of entertainment.

SummerSlam 2007 – The Aftermath

So I’m back from SummerSlam. As always, I had a blast and will likely not have a voice tomorrow. Not the best show I’ve been to by a long shot, but when you’re live it makes it seem like it’s the best fucking show ever, especially with a heated match like Orton/Cena and a NY/NJ crowd.

Here’s a quick rundown of the crowd responses and some notes.

Crowd was pretty good for the dark match (Cade/Murdoch vs Kendrik/London – Murdoch/Cade over) then pretty much completely died until Rey/Chavo (except for Kennedy’s entrance and a few spots). Then it died again until Austin came out. The Women’s battle royal was obviously the piss break and the arena cleared pretty well.

Great response for The Game, as expected, but about two minutes before the match actually started it started to seem desperate and the crowd died for a few minutes. I was honestly surprised that this wasn’t the semi-main event.

Of course, the crowd pretty much shit all over Khali/Batista except for a few spots including the Spinebuster and Spear (ugh). Definitely the worst match of the night.

I wanted to say Cena/Orton was 50/50, but I think it may have been more 60/40 in Cena’s favor. Though overall it was a pretty great match. Very hot crowd and the finish was phenomenal with the false finishes – I honestly thought it was over when Orton hit the RKO.

Top Three Pops
1. Triple H
2. Austin
3. Rey

Top Three Heat
1. Cena/Orton*
2. King Booker
3. Chavo

*As I said, it was pretty mixed.

All in all, a great night and I’m glad I went. My next show will likely be the Royal Rumble at Madison Square Garden unless I go to an indie show between now and then.

On a side note, the parking was all fucked up since they’re apparently building a new Football stadium and we wound up having to park right next to Giants’ Stadium – at least a quarter mile from the arena, not that I’m complaining…

SummerSlam 2007

Ah yes, SummerSlam, the biggest event of the Summer. Quite possibly the second biggest WWE event of the year, bested only by WrestleMania, and like so many years past, I have tickets.

As I’ve said in the past, I’ve been to a lot of wrestling events, and SummerSlam is dear to me, mostly because it was the first televised event I’ve seen in person, but also because it has housed some of my personal favorite matches, feuds and angles in wrestling history. Including:

- Razor Ramon vs. Shawn Michaels in the WrestleMania X Ladder rematch which I have always considered at least on par with their WMX encounter – possibly better.

- Bret Hart’s fifth and final WWF Championship win, which sort of foreshadowed the infamous Montreal Screwjob.

- Steve Austin vs. The Undertaker in what was in my opinion one of the hottest feuds ever. It wasn’t the greatest match, but the build to it was phenomenal. I still remember vividly when The Undertaker drove Austin out of the arena the RAW before SummerSlam 1998 in a hearse. And Taker doing the flying leg drop to the table. One of my favorite feuds of all time.

- The first ever TLC match, which wasn’t as ground breaking as the WrestleMania 2000 Ladder Match, but in my opinion they raised the bar for the final time that night and it has never been beaten.

- The return of Shawn Michaels from years out with his *cough* career-ending back injury.

- Brock Lesnar’s rise to the top.

Among others, but those really stick out to me. This year’s card is fairly weak compared to other events I’ve gone to (but to be fair I’ve been to a lot of shows) but I always have a blast. I’ll be cheering for Orton to finally dethrone Cena.

Speaking of dethroning, I find it funny that I’ll be live for both times Triple H returned from his quad tears – the first time at Madison Square Garden and now at SummerSlam against King Bookah.

And on one last note, Booker needs to drop the King gimmick. It’s a novelty act that has gone on way too long. I’ve loved Booker T since Harlem Heat, but King Booker is just really annoying at this point.

Foxit PDF Reader

Download of the Moment

I don’t read many .PDF files, but when I do I don’t like having to launch Adobe Acrobat. It just feels bulky and I really never liked it. Luckily there is a free alternative in Foxit Reader out there.

Foxit Reader from Foxit Software is a free .PDF reader. It’s extremely small (just about 1.5MB), very fast and fully-featured. You can zoom, search, annotate and a whole lot more. While it doesn’t integrate with any browser like Adobe Acrobat, it’s still a whole lot faster and an over all better experience when reading .PDF files.

Download of the Moment: Foxit Reader

SPECIAL TIP: Don’t want to launch Foxit? Then use Google! If the .PDF file you want to read is on a public website, just copy and paste the URL into a Google Search. More than likely you’ll come up with the document with a “View as HTML” near the link. Just click it and it will load (with a Google generated heading) as a regular web page. This also works if you come across a .PDF file in a search.

OMFG Hax #1: VROOOM!

This will be a new thing that I do once in a while. The premise is simple – anyone who has played Counter-Strike/Counter-Strike: Source or really any online co-op FPS has more than likely heard someone call someone out on hacking. Well, these are my tributes to those people.

Movies….

I haven’t really been a “movie watcher” in my life. Sure, I’ve seen my fair share of movies, and I’ve got my favorites, including Back to the Future, Ace Ventura, Terminator 2, among others. Growing up I never really “got into” movies, I was a video games kid. Sure, I watched stuff, but I was never really into them except my absolute favorites.

Lately I’m discovering some good ones I’ve never seen. The Terminator, for instance. I’ve always loved Terminator 2, in fact it was one of the first DVDs I bought (along with Toy Story 1 and 2 in a double pack – talk about contrast in movies), however I had never seen Terminator 1, even though I’ve had it for about six months. I saw it the other day and I thought it was really good. I then watched T2 and I got a lot more out of it because I had the plot down from the first one.

Another one I saw for the first time this past week was The Shining. Even though I had never seen it I had the basics of the plot down – Jack Nicholson grows progressively mad – and expected some key scenes like Wendy fighting Jack off with the bat, being locked in the pantry, the elevators of blood, etc mainly because I’ve seen so many shows to parodies of it, including The Simpsons and Rocko’s Modern Life.

Anyway, I found the movie fascinating. I’ve read that some people just don’t “get” why it’s scary, but man, this movie was pretty damn terrifying at a mental level – not a “gore, gore, chop chop, shoot shoot” kind of way – and I think I’m going to look more into the genre.

I’ve had Netflix for years but lately I’ve just been sending everything back after keeping it for weeks. I think I’m going to load up on some good movies and actually watch them. I’ve got a lot of movies that I need to see that are just part of our culture, and normally I don’t feel this way, but I feel left out!

Ubuntu: Guess it wasn’t so “final”.

Update

A while ago I said that I had made the leap to Ubuntu. Well, unfortunately, my 200GB hard drive failed, so I had to get a new drive. I had been meaning to transfer it to my 80GB drive, but it died and I lost all my OS-related data (besides my favorites and whatnot). So I reinstalled Windows instead of Ubuntu, and I guess it’s for the best because I had missed my games.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I think Ubuntu is really great, I just believe that, if you’re computer’s a gaming machine, you need to at least have a dual booted system. Me, I prefer not having to go back and forth between to systems OS on the same system.

Currently, though, I do have my laptop running Ubuntu with everything working and am very contempt at keeping it on there.

And please, don’t take me the wrong way. If one system works for you better than another (OSX over Windows, Windows over Linux, BSD over Linux) then I say go for it! Computing should be about choice – whether you stick with one or multiple OSes on one or across multiple systems.

Overall, Linux is a good solution if you don’t plan to game. Until developers start developing for Linux, or at least start porting more games over, Windows is it just for convenience. For anyone who doesn’t game (or who has more than one PC), Linux is the way to go on at least one system.
